Awesome Team Ideas
How can your team get awesome?
There are so many ways your team can get awesome for autism, and really, the only limit is your imagination! Our advice is, BE BOLD. Make it memorable, but of course, enjoyable and safe for everyone. Here's a few to get you started...
- Raffle - raffles are always a hit in the workplace. What are your team's favourite things? Ask some of your suppliers, supporters or favourite businesses, bars, theatres to donate goods, dinners, a holiday, spa/massage vouchers, etc. Or perhaps ask your boss for a free day of Annual Leave as a prize... we all want that! The more expensive the prize, the more more expensive the raffle ticket!
- Cupcake Day - bake cupcakes and other treats and sell them around the office. Wear AEIOU caps and ice the cakes in pink and blue to promote a conversation about autism (did you know autism affects 4 boys to every 1 girl?).
- Cupcake Bake Off - proud of your cakemaking abilities? Prove how perfect your cupcakes are by challenging others to a bake-off! Each competitor has a different coloured icing (keep it anonymous if you can). Team members pay $10 to taste each cupcake, and receive a token to place in a bucket representing their favourite cupcake.
- Best Pink & Blue Workspace - ask employees to decorate their workspaces in pink and blue and they can ask for gold coin donations for their efforts. The person with the most gold coins will receive a certificate from AEIOU!
- Ride Your Bike Day - select a day for everyone to ride their bike to work (with a registration fee). Take advantage of it with some team bonding, and have a leisurely ride and snacks at the local park at lunch time.
- Walk Home From Work - team members can ask their families, friends, neigbours to sponsor them $10 per kilometre to walk home one day. It could be the motivation they need to do some exercise after work.
- Spelling Bee - bring back the excitement (and stress?) of childhood with an old-fashioned spelling bee! It can be a great opportunity for the spelling nazis to show off their skills. Charge a participation fee and offer a prize as an incentive.
- Block Challenge - no, it's not renovating (unless you want to!). How many times can your team do laps of the block? Their friends, families and neighbours can sponsor them per lap.
- Talent Show - an after work talent show in the Board Room would be great for a laugh. Everyone is secretly raring to let out their inner rockstar! Charge an entry fee.
- Challenge the Boss - have 3 buckets to collect money, with a challenge for the Boss above each. The team can throw a gold coin in the bucket they most want to see the Boss complete... the bucket with the most gold coins.
- Trivia Night - organise a special evening for your team and partners at your local sports club.
- Mad Hatter's Tea Party - decorate the tea room as a whimsical world, provide some cakes and slices, and see how creative and wacky the team can dress for 'Wonderland'. Charge $5 per person for the delicious morning tea.
- Free Dress Day - possibly the most simple way to get awesome. The ideas are endless... a Harry Potter Day. Onesie Day, Dress as Your Favourite... (Superhero, Rockstar, Food, Sportsperson, Country), Sixties or Seventies Day, a Pink & Blue Day (AEIOU colours)
- Department Challenge - build cohesion within each department by asking them to challenge others in... an office obstacle course
Boost your fundraising further by:
- Asking your boss to match the funds raised
- Offering a prize to the highest fundraiser - petrol vouchers, theatre or movie tickets, extra day of Annual Leave (with permission of course)
