Individual therapy to support school transition
We’re excited to share a new service at AEIOU, starting January 2024: individual therapy designed to support your child’s transition into Prep, kindergarten or another learning environment.
The service is individualised, just like our program, so your child receives consistent support during their transition.
Supports are available weekly, fortnightly or monthly (as often as you need), and can be delivered in a range of settings. You may like to be supported at home by a visiting therapist, or within your child’s new education setting.
We hope to offer this service across many centres, based on the availability of therapists. Right now, we are looking for expressions of interest so we can begin our preparations.
To find out if your child is eligible, please complete an expression of interest form today!
Testimonials
“It [the transition program] has been more valuable to us than I could have ever imagined. The support has been instrumental to how well my son has progressed this year, so I am extremely appreciative for the possibility for this to continue” – Tamara, mum
“Remy had such a rough start at prep and we needed to change schools due to a lack of support. Having a familiar factor in the form of our AEIOU Occupational Therapist has helped him immensely to adjust. The AEIOU OT was able to work with him in his school, and also make clinical recommendations to his teachers to continue developing his skills in his new learning environment. Remy’s teachers have been given the tools to get the best out of Remy and know how to work with him because they had the OT as a bridge to make that transition less daunting for him (and us parents as well). I highly recommend the transition support program.” – Melinda, Remy’s mum
Answering your questions
-
What are the benefits of accessing this service?
Transitioning from AEIOU’s core service is a big change. Children have built strong relationships with their therapists and educators at the centre, and families have enjoyed consistent and family-focused support.
AEIOU's transition support program allows your child to continue accessing therapy at AEIOU throughout their transition to school, minimising disruption to your child’s progress on their priority goals. Families also receive much-needed support during this important time.
-
What will the support look like?
Individual therapies will be an extension of the evidence-based therapeutic supports your child has received from their therapist as part of the core AEIOU program. Therapies will follow a strengths-based and family-centred approach to focus on building your child’s skill set and your family’s capacity to support them.
‘Transition support’ might be new to you, but this refers to when therapists provide individualised therapeutic support to your child in their new education setting. Therapists will ensure that your child’s needs are understood and well supported in the classroom.
Please note: this limited service is available for six months, with review in June 2024. -
What therapies are available as individual sessions?
- Occupational therapy
- Speech pathology
- Positive behaviour support
Please note: in some cases, we may not be able to offer a therapy right away because the dedicated therapist may not have availability in their caseload. We will let you know if this happens and you will join a waitlist.
