Awesome School Ideas
How can your school get awesome for autism?
There are so many ways to get awesome for autism, and really, the only limit is your imagination! Here's a few to get you started...
- Dress Up Day - wear blue and pink (AEIOU colours); have a crazy hat or hair day; or dress as your favourite super hero, sports star, gaming hero, book or fairy tale character.
- Cupcake Day - bake cupcakes and other treats and sell them at a stall - ice the cakes in pink and blue to promote a conversation about autism (did you know autism affects 4 boys to every 1 girl?).
- Scavenger Hunt - a fun way for teachers to refresh facts learnt at school.
- Ride Your Bike or Walk to School Day - get the children active while they do something to support other children.
- Spelling Bee - an oldie but a goodie!
- Oval Challenge - how many times can the students do laps of the oval? They can get their friends and neighbours to sponsor them per lap.
- Talent Show - a lunchtime talent show with teachers and students as the stars - it's sure to be a great laugh (and might be the starting point for the next Dami Im!).
- Raffle - ask your local businesses to donate a prize, put their logos on your posters.
- Principal Challenge - nominate three challenges for your Principal and accept gold coin donations. The Principal has to do the challenge with the most gold coins.
- Trivia Night - organise a special evening for parents and teachers in your school hall or local sports club.
