AEIOU Education Support Program

AEIOU Education Support Program

At AEIOU Foundation, we recognise that children with an ASD often require support beyond the early years of learning. The Education Support program was developed to enhance the educational opportunities of children with an ASD. We offer the following services:

  1. Transdisciplinary Inclusion Support
  2. Assessment and associated Reports
  3. Transition Services
  4. Family, Professional and Community Education and Training

The program caters to children within the early and primary years of education and is open to all children with a formal diagnosis of an ASD. Our services have been developed to provide individualised support within the learning environment. We do not have the services to provide medico legal assessments or reports.

How Does the Program Work?

AEIOU Education Support works to empower children with an ASD and their teachers while in their learning environment to help children reach their full potential. We work with the child and family to determine the most appropriate support. This may include: an assessment of current strengths and needs, functional behavioural analysis, support and mentoring for staff working with the child.

Who provides the service?

The services will be delivered by a qualified special education teacher who works collaboratively with AEIOU’s Senior Speech Language Pathologist and Senior Occupational Therapist within a transdisciplinary model.

The transdisciplinary approach is an integrated model of service provision whereby a group of professionals including educators, occupational therapists, and speech language pathologists collaborate to perform assessment and subsequently determine the most effective methods of intervention that would most benefit the child. This method recognises the child as a whole rather than separate elements, while acknowledging that the individual difficulties experienced by a child with an ASD may be too complex to be addressed by a single specialist field. AEIOU utlises the transdisciplinary model in both their centres and the Education Support Model. The transdisciplinary model works on a basis of free-flowing communication and the transfer of skills and knowledge to ensure a high quality service.

Fee Structure

Education Support is a fee for service operation. Families who receive the Helping Children with Autism (HCWA) funding package may apply this to our Education Support Programs and Workshop, as well as the purchase of approved resources to support the child. For families of children who do not receive the HCWA package or choose not to utilise it for our services, payment will be required prior to receiving services. Travel and cancellation fees may apply to our services. Please contact AEIOU directly for more information.

Our standard fees start from:

  1. Transdisciplinary Inclusion Support:   $120 per hour
  2. Assessment and Report Writing:        $100 per hour
  3. Transition Services:                            $120 per hour

The style and format of support will be determined based upon child, family and school needs. All children will be required to engage in an intake package or assessment package at the commencement of their time with AEIOU Education Support. It is important to fully understand your child’s strengths and needs prior to the provision of services. Please note individual circumstances may vary, please call AEIOU Education Support for a quote.

AEIOU Foundation

AEIOU Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation and one of Australia’s leading providers of fulltime early education for children with an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)/

The Foundation operates in nine centres across Queensland, utilising a curriculum that has been specifically developed to meet the needs of children with an ASD and their families. Each group of children is supported by a dedicated team comprised of skilled learning facilitators and staff from disciplines including speech pathology, occupational therapy, psychology, special education and early childhood teaching.

School readiness and transition have always been an important part of the AIEOU program and since our inception, support has been provided for children and their families as they transition to their future educational settings.

Recognising a need for support beyond the early intervention setting, AEIOU’s specialist team has created a program to support children in schools, helping them to reach their educational goals and providing support and training to educators in the field.

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

Autism is a lifelong pervasive developmental disorder. In the community it is estimated that one in 160 children will have a diagnosis of an ASD. Males are four times more likely to have autism than females. Males are four times more likely to have autism than females. In general terms, an individual with autism experiences difficulties in processing and understanding stimuli within their environment. The core features of autism are characterised by impairments in communication skills, both verbal and nonverbal; impaired social behaviour and social relating; and restricted interests and repetitive behaviour. It follows that autism impacts substantially on every facet of life, services that address the functional needs of the child with autism are therefore required.
