QLD Chemists Tee off for Charity
More than 140 Queensland Chemists were joined by former formula one world champion Alan Jones and PGA golfer Neil Wall to raise more than $15,000 for charity at the Queensland Chemists Golf Day on Monday 15 November at Lakelands Golf Club Merrimac.
The AEIOU Foundation, which provides early intervention for children with autism was the beneficiary of the event, which attracted the biggest turnout in the event’s history, with more than 35 teams teeing off for an Ambrose competition.
AEIOU Foundation Chairman James Morton said he was delighted with the event, and the support of Queensland Chemists, explaining the Foundation plans to create a custom-built centre on the Gold Coast.
“The AEIOU Foundation relies heavily on fundraising and community support, and we were thrilled with the generosity and support at the Queensland Chemists Golf Day,” Dr Morton said.
“Everybody who contributed is directly helping us to expand the AEIOU Foundation’s early intervention program and help children with autism reach their full potential” he said.
Dr Morton said AEIOU hopes to commence construction of a purpose built centre at the Gold Coast in 2011, an opportunity to provide up to 30 child placements for children aged two and a half to five years.
Gold Coast Mayor, Councillor Ron Clarke said I am most supportive of AEIOU and the work that they do with young children with autism.
“Based on the current population statistics for the Gold Coast there are at least 30 children in need of the type of service offered by AEIOU” Councillor Clarke said.
“Gold Coast City Council does have land available for an AEIOU centre to be established, we are committed to ensuring the Gold Coast community is supported through such services as AEIOU.
The service AEIOU provides is unique and the community benefit of their work has been proven many times” he said.
“In the interim, we are launching the program at the ABC Learning Centre in Carrara West with six children starting the program on November 22nd,” Dr Morton said.
A grand total of $15,365 was raised at the event on Monday from player registrations, corporate sponsorships, auctions and raffles. Jack Anderson walked away with first prize raffle, a break at Versace Gold Coast with an Audi A5 Cabriolet for the weekend.
PGA Golfer Neil Wall spent the day on the challenging 17th hole offering to take the teams’ tee-off over the lake for them at a price of $20 to also go towards the AEIOU Foundation.
The AEIOU Foundation is extending its services to the Gold Coast community to provide the appropriate support to families with children with autism.
The AEIOU Foundation is Queensland’s only charitable organisation dedicated to providing full time early intervention for children aged two and half to five years diagnosed with autism.
