Joey DePasquale - an AEIOU success story

Thu, 9 Feb 06

It's 12 months since AEIOU first opened its doors and we are seeing some great results. The DePasquale family write that they are looking forward to seeing their son Joey make further strides this year.

We are the DePasquale family  Frank, June, Louis (aged 6) and Joey (aged 4).

Joey was diagnosed with autism two years ago. After our first year of shock we decided that we needed to do something to help Joey be the best he could be. We eventually found out that AEIOU was about to open.

Joey has been attending AEIOU full time throughout 2005 and is currently going to AEIOU two days a week and attending a 'normal" preschool three days a week.

It was only last week (late January) that I really thought about Joey's progress when I saw him stand up at his normal preschool and tell everybody about his weekend and that he had learnt to ride his bike. This time last year Joey could not even say Mummy and would never look at let alone speak to anyone outside his immediate family.

Frank and I cannot praise the teachers and staff at AEIOU enough for the tremendous efforts they have put in for Joey. Louis (Joey's older brother) told us the other day that he thinks Joey is fun now because he plays with us. How great is that!!
