AUSTRALIA POST boosts AEIOU

MEDIA RELEASE

JULY 2010

AUSTRALIA POST boosts AEIOU

The AEIOU Foundation has been selected by Australia Post Queensland as a 2010 beneficiary for their ‘Be Seen in Red and Green (BSRG) charity initiative.

Australia Post employees raise money for three charities – one national and two state based charities – and have raised an amazing total of $648,500 since the initiative started 10 years ago.

Australia Post Communications Adviser, Nyssa Black said “AEIOU was nominated as a charity beneficiary by our staff members and customers for its impact on their personal life and the difference they make to children with Autism Spectrum Disorders. It was clear this is an organisation our people wanted to support".

“With the concerning rise in the prevalence of autism (approx 1 in 160 children) there are many children and families throughout Queensland who need the specialised support of the AEIOU Foundation and we wish to lend a hand in providing them just that.” Nyssa said.

“BSRG kicked off a decade ago as a way of celebrating the spirit of Christmas and boosting staff morale but has now turned into a year-long initiative. All fundraising is driven by the employees and includes chocolate drives, selling merchandise, casual Fridays, bake offs, raffles, hosting BBQs and decorating their Post Offices and vans," Nyssa said.

Providing specialised support to a young child with autism is expensive and the money raised by Australia Post will contribute to AEIOU’s Lynn Wright Memorial Fund and provide financial assistance to families wishing to attend the AEIOU program.

The AEIOU Foundation is a Queensland not for profit organisation dedicated to providing a fulltime early intervention and learning program of best-practice standard to children aged 2½ to 6 years diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD).

Autism is a lifelong disorder affecting communication, behaviour and socialisation. It impacts each person differently but early intervention can enable children to learn valuable life and coping skills and help them reach their full potential.

Australia Post Queensland also nominated the Starlight Foundation as their national charity and MS Qld as their second state BSRG beneficiary.
