Become involved in 10-40-600
Autism is a neurological disorder that affects the way these children relate to the people and environment around them. Children with autism have difficulties with social interaction and relationships, communication and language, and repetitive behaviour. Their sensory, cognitive and motor skills may also be affected. There are no obvious physical attributes that advertise their condition leading these children and their parents to be misunderstood.
High quality early intervention programs like those provided by the AEIOU Foundation help children on the autism spectrum to develop language and social skills – enabling them to integrate into mainstream schooling and reach their full potential.
Through the AEIOU Foundation's 10:40:600 program, you and your organisation can help more and more children emerge from the bubble of autism. For these children, your support will make the world of difference.
Currently there is a $10,000 a year funding gap for each child placement at an AEIOU centre. Your $10,000 social investment leverages a further $30,000 of funding in Government support plus parent fees, therefore providing a $40,000 placement. This is our financial requirement to successfully take a child through our program for 12 months.
$10,000 translates into $40,000
AEIOU provides valuable early childhood education to children with autism so they can gain their independence as they grow. By assisting these children to communicate, engage with others and become integrated into their community, your contribution will provide an average lifetime cost saving of $600,000* per year for each year the child participates in an AEIOU program.
$40,000 translates into $600,000
Every $10,000 social investment is used by AEIOU to meet the many costs associated with providing best-practice therapy and learning. Being a registered charity also means each $10,000 contribution to the AEIOU Foundation's 10:40:600 program is tax-deductible.

"In AEIOU, we have found our salvation. Our gorgeous baby girl now has the opportunity to reach her full potential."
Joanne O'Brien, AEIOU parent
*Based on Jacobsen et al (1998): the average lifetime cost saving for a pre-school child with autism is $US1.5M (conservative estimate of $AU1.2M). Costs to the community include welfare and carer payments, under employment, high health and medical costs etc. The majority of children who finish the AEIOU program will achieve independence and enter the workforce. Early intervention requires 2 years to prepare a child for independence making this figure $600,000 of savings per year.
